Fiction: Women's/Romance
Dancing in the Dark weaves a narrative about four people in love. The story features Harry Salinger, a psychotherapist in Manhattan, and Amanda Blake, whom he has met through his professional work, and two of his clients who fall in love without realizing they are in treatment with the same therapist. The novel follows the vicissitudes of these relationships, the break-ups and make-ups, the ambivalences, misunderstandings, and regrettable bad behavior that create havoc and painful goodbyes. But what the human heart craves, it relinquishes reluctantly. The author, a psychotherapist himself, puts to use his long experience to create characters who are real to life, psychologically complex but realistically drawn. Readers will be locked into these characters and will be eager to learn about their ultimate destinies. The uncertainty of what will happen, the struggles of these four protagonists to preserve the love they long for, will hold readers in thrall, and induce them to continue turning pages until the last sentence. It is also a tale of people changing, grappling to avoid heartbreak, and slowly coming to grips with whom they are and what they truly need. It is a novel that graphically delineates the passions, disappointments, and hopes that all four must experience and endure in their efforts to secure happiness. The reader will regret the end of their journey into the lives of these people.
