Children's: Young Adult Fiction
Sixteen-year-old Eila Baird’s life is turned upside down when her parents announce she will be moving from New York City to suburban Michigan to live with her mysterious, reclusive, and wealthy aunt in order to attend the elite prep school, Pemberley Academy.

Eila, despite her charm and witty sense of humor, struggles to fit in at Pemberley, where she is judged not only on her lack of status and wealth but also, for her rather unique quality of speaking her mind in any social circle. This characteristic seems to especially offend the most popular students in the junior class: Ellison and Reed Warner, Riley Rose, and most of all, the arrogant and infuriatingly handsome, Malik Dora.

Luckily, Eila’s year improves as she soon befriends some of the other outsiders at Pemberley, and, best of all, seems to become a particular favorite of the handsome and enchanting Dean of Students, Mr. Wickham. But when popular boy Reed Warner and her best friend Jane Banatte suddenly begin to date, Eila is forced into the competitive and alien world of the wealthy and popular.

We follow Eila through her dramatic first year at Pemberley Academy, as she makes new friends, more than a few enemies, and ultimately discovers that even in a world so seemingly superficial, there may be more than meets the eye.
