Description:
Igor isn’t like most middle-aged men. Sure, he has a wife and a child – Anna – who’s growing up faster than Igor anticipated. And Igor has bills to pay, as many people do. But Igor is a retired aging porn star and former heroin addict battling hedonistic urges that run deep. And he has no idea how he’s going to make next month’s rent. Desperate times lead to measures that will send Igor down a familiar troubled path he’d sooner not travel again.

Driven by financial straits, Igor is enticed into an “artistic” porn project that pays well. After Igor’s gay brother-in-law Tom arranges a meeting with Rogi, the director, Igor realizes his suppressed homosexuality isn’t willing to remain stifled. And Rogi, who’d specifically requested Igor for the project, seems to have more than business on his mind.

While debating whether to take the job, Igor is flooded with painful memories of his past, including the complicated relationship with his Lebanese Communist father and his mother’s passing. Igor blames himself for her death and is plagued by guilt for failing to pay for chemotherapy, which may have saved her. Motivated by the desire to provide for his family, Igor relents and takes on Rogi’s venture. But good intentions quickly take a dark and twisted turn, placing Igor’s wife and child in harm’s way and forcing Igor into a bizarre series of acts well beyond his comfort zone, to ensure the safety of his loved ones. However, nothing is what it seems, and Igor must not only face his demons but win them in a battle waged from within.

Forgive Me, Mi Matka, is a psychological and transgressive work of literary fiction. There is an audience for this book and just like me, they enjoy stories that allow them to explore transgressive worlds and characters. Fans of Last Exit to Brooklyn by Hubert Selby Jr., Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk, The Sluts by Dennis Cooper, and American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis will be drawn to this disturbingly captivating tale.
