Scapegoat: The Chino Hills Murders and the Framing of Kevin Cooper
May 6, 2020
J. Patrick O'Connor
Non-fiction: True crime
Kevin Cooper has been on death row at San Quentin since his conviction in 1984 for the grisly murders of four people and the attempted murder of another person. A large San Francisco law firm, Orrick, adopted the case pro bono in 2003. The attorney there is dedicated in an incredible way to pressing Kevin's appeals and establishing his innocence. In spite of strong national support, he is fighting major resistance from the state and the courts. Based on what the author has researched, this is a compelling story of just how far law enforcement will go to get a conviction in a high-profile case.
