Nonfiction Query: “The Hunt for Johne: A New Solution for the Rising Tide of Crohn’s Disease”

Crohn’s disease affects 1.5 million people in the United States. “The Hunt for Johne: A New Solution for the Rising Tide of Crohn’s Disease” reveals the link between Johne’s disease, which is deadly to cattle, and Crohn’s disease, which affects humans. The connection is Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis, or MAP bacteria, which are transmitted from cows to humans through dairy products. This transmission is possible because MAP bacteria are impervious to pasteurization.

Based on my personal experience growing up on a farm in North Yorkshire, England, and my decades of work as a colorectal surgeon in Atlanta, Georgia, “The Hunt for Johne” is the first book to describe the path of transmission of this debilitating disease. The book reads like a medical thriller, with a cast of colorful characters throughout history and the medical breakthroughs—and missteps—they’ve made to bring us to where we are today.

I would be pleased to send you the full proposal upon request.
