Author:
Bill Rivers
Category:
Fiction: Debut
Description:
A coming of age novel set in a small rural Pennsylvania town in 1968, where the irrepressible 13-year-old Jack Elliot naively believes that if he makes his oldest brother Pete famous it will save him from being drafted. Accompanied by Pete, his other brother Will, and his cousin Frankie who will chronicle their adventure, Jack embarks on an expedition to find the remains of a fighter jet that crashed in the Allegheny mountains. Its discovery will make Pete famous - and famous boys don't go to war. But when the expedition is cut short due to Jack falling ill, he learns that keeping Pete from the dangers of war may have him face greater dangers at home.
