Description:
During World War II, American troops are stationed in Auckland for R & R and the city fizzes with jazz music. Seventeen-year-old Evelyn Brittain finds first love in the form of trumpet-playing American GI, Walter Franklin. But when Walter goes missing and is presumed dead, Evelyn sinks into a depression and uses a dangerous sexual encounter as a salve to her pain. Years later, unhappily married with three children, Evelyn struggles to come to terms with letting go of the son she gave birth to as a result of that one-night stand, almost risking her entire family in the process.
