Eclipse: The Story of Dido
Sept. 26, 2017
Author:
Michael Ortiz
Category:
Fiction: General/Other
Description:
A retelling of the myth of Dido: when her brother’s treachery forces her to set sail for a new life across the seas, Dido founds a new city, taking pride in its rising walls and palaces. Yet the day Aeneas’s ships come ashore in a storm after escaping the destruction of Troy, she is tempted again to risk everything, to give herself to this stranger who sings songs of civilizations in cadences that are beautiful beyond words. When he suddenly leaves her at the call of his strange gods, Dido sends a catastrophic sign of spite to the man who has shaken her soul with a single glance. Eclipse brings to life an ancient legend that speaks to today’s world with hints of political menace side by side with a lyrical evocation of hope, rooted in the wonder of the world. Dido is a feminist protagonist who takes control of her own destiny.
