Neal Porter, the award-winning children's book editor and founder of Neal Porter Books, said in an SCBWI editors' panel that he "publishes picture books his 7-year-old self would love." I write picture books that my 7-year-old self would love, and I love things that are funny and silly but also heartwarming. I am drawn to characters who face challenges and by dint of hard work, creativity, and perseverance, overcome them.
