Called “HBO for readers” by NPR, Serial Box is a phone-focused reading & listening serial-publishing platform cofounded by Molly Barton, former Global Director of Digital at Penguin Random House. Think ‘Charles Dickens for the digital age’ but with audio as an option. We bring new ‘episodes’ to readers and listeners every week through our app and website (where fans subscribe to a serial or buy a season). By combining the production and release style of TV, the convenience of podcasts, and high quality storytelling you’d expect from the top publishers, Serial Box brings readers addictive serial fiction every week. The format is flexible for on-the-go fans -- you can toggle between reading OR listening to the story and we save your place.
Serial episodes fit into your week and your commute, they’re more satisfying and more fun because you can finish them quickly and talk with friends about what happened in a particular episode. With Serial Box Originals, you can influence the story by being a vocal fan.
For our Originals, we work with writers’ rooms and our own custom story production process to develop original series that are released over 10-13 weeks in episodes that take 30 min to read or an hour to listen.
We also work in partnership with traditional publishers to bring our fans serial publications of classic and forthcoming books.
