For the past several years, I’ve worked as a writer and editor for a nonprofit that creates multimedia educational materials for a multi-ethnic, mostly conservative, audience. In addition, I’ve edited children’s books, young adult novels, short stories and screenplays for more liberal audiences, and have written feature articles for periodicals such as Islands Magazine and Sport Diver Magazine. Before moving to Florida, I taught middle and high school English in South Central Los Angeles, working mostly with Black, Hispanic, and Asian students, where I developed a passion to see progress in the areas of racial equity and reconciliation. I recently completed the memoir, Becoming Less Clueless: The White Person’s Guide to Being Not-White in America and a screenplay based on my teaching experience called Through the Gates.
