This writer is looking for an agent.
Carl Smith, an Australian native but raised in New Jersey, has been writing for nearly ten years now. In addition to earning his Master's in the Art of Teaching and working full-time as a high school English teacher, he has written several short stories and completed his first novel. Having finally finished his manuscript after almost a decade of writing and multiple revisions, he is ready to begin the next phase of his budding career by finding an outstanding agent to help him publish his novel. In his own words, Carl would describe his writing as upmarket and/or literary fiction with a bent towards psychological prose and in-depth characterization in the vein of such 20th century writers as William Styron, Philip Roth, Richard Yates, and Virginia Woolf. His writing typically deals with themes of loneliness, anxiety, identity, and an individual's struggle for freedom as it relates to life in the modern, and increasingly technological, world.
