My novel Samba Dreamers (University of Arizona Press) is the story of two Brazilians in America who wrestle with the myths of movies, politics, and the American Dream as they pursue each other in a destructive ill-fated relationship. The novel was nominated for the Northern California Book Award and won a 2007 Pen Oakland Josephine Miles Award. The book is currently being used in Latino and Brazilian Literature courses in colleges across the country.
My work has appeared in many publications including the Los Angeles Times, Boston Review, Michigan Quarterly Review, Gettysburg Review, TriQuarterly, and the anthologies Stories of the Southwest (Ohio State University Press), and Latinos in Lotusland: An Anthology of Comporary Southern California Literature (Bilingual Press).
