Aliza Fogelson

I am a freelance writer, editor, and publishing consultant based in New York. Previously, I spent ten years at Clarkson Potter/Penguin Random House, where I was a Senior Editor specializing in illustrated nonfiction, including Decorating and Design, Cookbooks, Fashion and Personal Style, Health, Weddings, Gardening, and Etiquette. I created critically acclaimed and bestselling books with the world’s top lifestyle experts, including Deborah Needleman, Maxwell Ryan of apartmenttherapy.com, Frances Mayes, Aerin Lauder, Celerie Kemble, Alexa Hampton, Thom Filicia, Sam Beall of Blackberry Farm, Sara Kate Gillingham and Faith Durand of thekitchn.com, Dorothea Johnson and Liv Tyler, Carley Roney of TheKnot.com, and the American Heart Association.

My publishing career began at ReganBooks/HarperCollins, where I edited celebrity/personal memoir, commercial and literary fiction, and other narrative nonfiction. My authors included Wally Lamb, Neil Strauss, Bernie Mac, Todd Oldham, Dave Navarro, and Maura Moynihan.

As a freelance editor and writer, I offer support through all stages of the publishing process. My specialties include:

Co-writing and ghostwriting:
Idea development and finding the book’s “hook”
Creating high-quality outlines, proposals, and manuscripts with authors
Crafting blog posts, personal website copy, and book marketing copy

Editing:
Line editing
Conceptual editing
In-depth editorial notes
Project management from acquisition to publication

Whether you are an aspiring author (with a story or an idea you need help capturing, or with a manuscript in need of professional guidance before you send it out or self-publish it), an established author (with a manuscript you’d like to elevate before submission), or an agent or publisher looking for an experienced, professional collaborator for your author, I would love to hear from you.
