JONATHAN LYONS provides counseling to clients in all areas of the media industry, with an emphasis on publishing, copyright, podcasts, employment, and merchandising. His practice includes the representation of authors and agents regarding publishing and copyright matters; negotiation of employment and independent contractor agreements for journalists and media executives; counseling to publishers regarding their intellectual property and business affairs; drafting and negotiating agreements on behalf of podcast producers, distributors, writers, and talent; sponsorship, endorsement, brand, and speaking agreements for influencers and celebrities; and neutral mediation services for intellectual property disputes. Jonathan has developed a particular expertise in complex and cutting edge transactions in the digital and audio media space.
Jonathan has served as an adjunct professor at New York University’s Master of Science in Publishing Program, where he has taught a course on contract negotiation. Separately, Jonathan is also a literary agent and Vice President at Curtis Brown, one of the most venerable and prominent literary agencies in the world, where he represents writers in a variety of genres. He has also previously served as Chair for the Contracts Committee of the Association of Authors’ Representatives. Jonathan received his degrees from Washington University in St. Louis and Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. At Cardozo he focused on intellectual property law and was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, for which he received the Jacob Burns Medal for Outstanding Moot Court Achievement. Jonathan oversaw the literary law practice group at Savur Threadgold LLP prior to founding Lyons & Salky Law, LLP.
JESSECA SALKY has spent her career assisting creative professionals in a variety of entertainment-related industries, with an emphasis on authors, agents, freelance editors, small publishers, and book publicists. Jesseca regularly counsels agents and authors on matters of concern from development through publication, including on copyright and other intellectual property protection issues. She also regularly handles corporate formation, partnership and operating agreements, trademark registration, and general contract matters for start-ups and other firm clients. In addition to the day-to-day contracts and business concerns of her clients, Jesseca specializes in dramatic rights licenses and pre-litigation dispute resolution.
Jesseca is also the founder and owner of her own literary agency, Salky Literary Management, where she represents many award-winning and New York Times bestselling clients, including Pulitzer Prize winner Anne Tyler. She is also an adjunct professor at New York University’s Master of Science in Publishing Program. Prior to founding Lyons & Salky Law, LLP, Jesseca worked at The Fridman Law Group, where she specialized in general corporate matters and contracts for the digital advertising industry and New York-based producers and content creators. She received her juris doctorate from Fordham University School of Law (cum laude), where she served as a research assistant at the Samuelson-Glushko Intellectual Property and Information Law Clinic. Jesseca has over sixteen years’ experience in book publishing. Jesseca holds a B.A. from Northwestern University. She is admitted to the New York State Bar.
