Johanna Castillo
Writers House

Johanna Castillo joined Writers House Literary Agency as a Senior Literary Agent in June 2018. A seasoned professional in the publishing industry, Johanna was formerly Vice President & Executive Editor at Atria Books/Simon and Schuster and Editorial Director of Atria Español for nearly fifteen years. In that role, she acquired and edited forty-one New York Times bestsellers by multiple national and international bestselling authors including Isabel Allende, Colleen Hoover, Sharyn McCrumb, Rachael Ray, Sara Shepard, Rosanna Pansino, Laura Day, Javier Sierra, Laura Esquivel, Jenny Rivera, Theresa Caputo, Armando Lucas Correa, Tosha Silver and María Dueñas.

As a literary agent, Johanna is actively building a list of talented authors with whom she can work closely with editorially and form solid, long-term partnerships that will result in bestselling and meaningful works. Some of her notable clients include: Isabel Allende (World English market), Leila Meacham, Anita Hughes, Justin Baldoni, Tina Lifford, Stephen Haff, Sofia Quintero, Janney (Chiquis) Rivera, Lauren Martin, Eunice Kim, Gabriela Aleman, Pat LaFrieda, Reyna Grande, Pamela Redmon Satran and Laura Lee.

Johanna is seeking works of quality commercial and literary fiction, inspirational memoirs, and narrative nonfiction and practical nonfiction. She is particularly passionate about women’s fiction and historical fiction works. Having edited historical fiction titles such as The Japanese Lover, Unquiet Grave, The Trick, The German Girl, The Time in Between, and The Girl They Left Behind, Johanna is on the lookout for works that are epic in scope and featuring themes of hardship and survival, friendship, and moving personal and family history.
