JCA is a rights agency in Tokyo, Japan that was established in 2019 from the joint investment of Bunkyosha (Japan) and Kross Pictures (Korea).
We conduct services for literary rights and also screen rights and use of secondary and tertiary copyrights.
Our service areas have primarily been with Japanese, Taiwanese (Traditional Chinese), Chinese (Simplified Chinese) and Korean agencies and publishers, but in 2020 we began our new sector of selling rights to buyers in the United States and Europe.
In the Asian sector, our Japanese authors include Keigo Higashino, Riku Okuda, and Keiya Mizuno. JCA is a mediator for over 60 foreign companies and Japanese publishers such as Bunkyosha, PHP, Diamond, KADOKAWA, Discover 21, Gentosha, Nikkei Business Publications, Kobunsha, Shodensha, Sunmark Publishing, Kanki Publishing, etc. We are connected to top level publishers especially in China and Taiwan, and we have private bestselling Chinese clients whom we communicate with without a local agent. Last year we made a deal with Japan's Fuji Television Network on making a film for mainland China. As for Korea, we cooperate with a very trustworthy and prominent Korean agent who we've been connected with for over a decade.
Our US-Europe sector of JCA began in December of 2020. The general manager Taku Hirasawa was previously involved in introducing Marie Kondo's debut book to the United States. We still have very few agency and publisher connections in the U.S. and Europe when it comes to importing books into the area, and are currently looking for strong local agents that can find homes for undiscovered Japanese contents. We hold an enormous collection of bestselling books that have sold as many as 4 million copies to books that are less-known domestically but are potential bestsellers for readers abroad.
JCA is a multilingual agency. Our agents are native speakers of the area they specialize in and are fluent/native in both English and Japanese.
