BRAM AND THE BAT is an epistolary gothic-horror novel focused on Bram Stoker as he is sucked into the life of the vampiric inspiration for DRACULA in a Scottish seaside village.
Bram Stoker is seeking inspiration for his novel. Having been overworked and undervalued at London’s Lyceum Theatre and feeling unloved by both his wife and secret lover, Oscar Wilde, Bram escapes the city for the Scottish village of Port Erroll. But a mysterious woman’s death plunges Bram into a dark tale of murder, cults, devilry, and blood-sucking creatures of the night. As he struggles with the horrors associated with his own inner anxieties about his sexual orientation, Bram knows he must finish this vampiric story of his to not only save his own life, but the lives of others who may encounter similar nosferatu.
BRAM AND THE BAT is a 90,000-word gothic-horror novel blending fiction and fact in Bram Stoker’s seven-year long effort to write DRACULA. This is for fans of the epistolary style of Shriver's WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN and the twisted, literary horror of Bardugo's NINTH HOUSE and Chbosky's IMAGINARY FRIEND. Utilizing Bram’s notes, personal diaries, and previously unpublished chapters of the vampiric classic, we read through the hand of Bram himself what, and most terrifyingly who, helped to create the iconic Count.
