Catapult Book Group (Catapult / Counterpoint Press / Soft Skull Press) is looking for a highly organized individual with the communication and system-building skills to support our publicity initiatives as a Publicist who is interested in furthering a career in book publishing.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2-3 years of publicity experience, preferably with a trade book publisher focusing on high-quality fiction and narrative nonfiction; media contacts and familiarity with both major, niche, and social media outlets; exceptional written and verbal communication skills; a proven ability to juggle projects and duties; demonstrated organizational skills; a passion for books and reading; and knowledge of the contemporary literary world. We are looking for candidates who enjoy networking with the media, representing our company at industry-related events, and sharing their love for the books they are working on and the ones they're reading for fun.

People of color, LGBTQIA people, and disabled people are strongly encouraged to apply. While a New York Metro-based hybrid/WFH candidate is preferred, we will consider a WFH/remote position based in California or Oregon.

- Independently plan and execute targeted media and event campaigns for literary fiction, crime, poetry, and non-fiction titles, including narrative non-fiction, biography, current events, travel, politics, environment, and memoirs (approximately 2 frontlist titles per month)
- Build media lists and maintain publicity databases (knowledge of Cision/Meltwater always a plus; familiarity with Google Drive a must)
- Develop tailored press materials (including galley letters, press releases, author praise sheets, email pitches) while overseeing review copy mailings, maintaining diligent follow-up via email and phone, and tracking all outreach
- Identify new media opportunities to build on existing media contacts and brainstorm creative angles for our campaigns
- Nurture relationships and liaise directly with media and social/cultural influencers
- Manage interview prep and occasional media training for authors
- Maintain regular communication with Director of Publicity, Director of Marketing, Editorial Director, editors, authors, and agents

Proficiencies in any/all of the following are preferred: Teamwork or similar workflow management software, Meltwater and/or Cision, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Mailchimp.
