ASSOCIATE PRODUCTION EDITOR

THIS IS POSTION CAN BE HYBRID OR REMOTE IN NAPERVILLE, ILLINOIS OR FULLY REMOTE IN THE FOLLOWING STATES ONLY: AZ, CT, NY, NJ, MD, MN, TN, TX, AND WI

Job Responsibilities

• Govern list of titles for assigned projects, shepherding books from manuscript to pages to final files
• Manage production timelines through all stages, hitting benchmark dates or projecting new benchmarks as needed
• Analyze manuscript and cover copy, ensuring content is complete, tagged and formatted to Sourcebooks style, according to project schedule
• Confirm final manuscript styling (ScML) and clean-up, including reviewing changes/comments by author/acquiring editor
• Obtain and manage freelance copyediting and proofreading services, communicating queries to authors and/or editors for resolution
• Evaluate quality of work provided by freelancers and provide timely feedback for improvement
• Work alongside editorial, production, and design to produce the best possible product, evaluating content and monitoring qualities that will improve assigned books
• Digitally route and check cover and internal pages, including printer proofs
• Work with editor and author to ensure all content is approved and of the utmost quality
• Complete final checks on all covers, internals, and additional materials for assigned titles

The Ideal Candidate will have:
• BS/BA in English, Writing, Communications, Business, or related major and 2+ years of experience in a related field
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic publishing environment without sacrificing quality for deadline
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• The drive to build strong business relationships and be adaptable to various communication styles, situations, and personalities across all levels of the company, including senior management
• Flexibility to stay at the forefront of an ever-changing industry landscape
• Above all, a strong willingness to learn

Important Skills:
• Project Management experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, primarily Acrobat
• Familiarity with bookmaking conventions
• Experience with Chicago Manual of Style
