Requirements:
HarperCollins Publishers, the second largest consumer book publisher in the world, with operations in 17 countries, with +$2 billion in revenue, is seeking a VP/Controller. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer in New York, the position will have oversight for worldwide operations and a staff of 70+ people. This key leadership role within the finance organization will interact with all levels of management as well as internal and external auditors.
NYC hybrid preferred, but remote location status will be considered.
Responsibilities:
-Management of the entire North America accounting function, including Financial Reporting and Compliance, Accounts Payable, Cost Accounting, Royalty Accounting, Payroll and Tax.
-Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and ensuring policies and procedures are followed/executed.
-Establishes, monitors, and ensures the successful implementation of internal controls.
-Overall company responsibility for Sarbanes Oxley internal control compliance.
-Leads company's annual external audit effort.
-Acts as key liaison with parent company's internal audit department for annual audit planning and guidance for individual audits.
-Overall responsibility for worldwide financial statement reporting to corporate parent.
-Provides consolidated financial statement guidance and reviews together with Purchase Price accounting for mergers and acquisitions.
-Manages monthly profit/balance sheet including performance reporting.
-Identifies and implements best practices for enhancements of internal controls.
-Optimizes cash flow/working capital management.
-Continuously seeks best practice solutions and provides change management implementation leadership.
Qualifications:
-Ability to make quick concise decisions in a fast-paced environment
-Able to multi-task numerous jobs under strict time constraints
-Ability to proactively identify issues before they arise and provide sound solutions
-Strong financial analytical acumen and problem-solving ability
-Ability to foster teamwork in the accounting organization and provide project management leadership as required
-Excellent written and oral communication skills
-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with executives, managers, employees and vendors
-Working knowledge of US & Foreign Corporate Income and indirect taxes
-Hands-on skill in design and implementation of policies and procedures
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
-Bachelor's degree in accounting, or equivalent educational and on the job experience
-CPA required
-Auditing experience; Compliance-oriented
-Extensive knowledge of US GAAP accounting principals
-10-15 years of experience in financial positions of increasing responsibility, including 3-5 years as Controller
-Experience working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas
-Experience with financial reporting requirements both internally and externally
-Publishing experience preferred
