Macmillan has an exciting opportunity for a Special Markets Manager/Assistant Manager to manage our Gift Sales Channel and join the Special Markets Team! The position will oversee and work closely with our commission sales groups/independent gift retailers and key national accounts managed by our commission groups. Macmillan Special Markets is responsible for selling all wholly owned and distribution client publishers.

Reporting to the VP Special Markets, the ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying and growing business in the independent gift channel. This is an excellent opportunity for a well-organized, energetic and results-driven professional. Our ideal candidate has a passion for sales and experience in the Gift/Specialty Market within the book publishing industry.

What you'll do:

- Work closely with the Special Sales Assistant to support the day-to-day selling activities of commission rep groups.
- Daily interaction with our commission rep group and customer service.
- Support our Order Processing team addressing account questions and providing additional sales support as needed.
- Manage and grow business across independent retail accounts selling frontlist/backlist adult and children’s titles and actively soliciting reorders.
- Prepare sales materials for reps and accounts, including sell sheets, Edelweiss collections, catalogs, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Present webinars to launch seasonal lists to commission rep groups.
- Identify and target key Macmillan gift books for the independent specialty retail channel.
- Provide insight and feedback on retail trends within the specialty market through trend reports and to publishers as needed.
- Work with in-house designer to produce annual Gift Catalog and Winter Gift Supplement.
- Attend internal launch, sales, publisher, and marketing meetings where applicable.
- Process monthly commission reports.
- Participate in the development and planning of seasonal gift shows.
- Provide sales estimates for titles selling in the gift market.
- Attend and sell at gift shows and customer meetings both virtually and in person.

What you'll bring:

- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, VLOOKUP) and Google Suite.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Skilled in verbal and written communication.
- Excellent time management and organization skills with strong attention to detail.
- Able to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Possess enthusiasm and initiative for sales.
- Ability and willingness to travel 2-3 times a year to gift shows.

Ideal Experience/Education:

- At least 1 to 3 years of experience working in Special Markets/Gift Retail within the publishing industry with direct sales experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
