We are seeking a full-time Production Editor to join our team.


Serving as production editor on appropriate volume of titles per year
Ensure that all books are 1) well edited, 2) copyedited, 3) proofread, 4) indexed, and 5) out of house on time.
Review and approve corrections marked on book proofs by freelancers and authors and collate all corrections onto a single proof to deliver to design
Tracking production calendars to ensure books stay on schedule; communicating among the production team and across relevant departments when jobs are running behind; renegotiating deadlines when appropriate
Coordinate eBook production for all products
Includes both standard reflowable text and designed fixed-format layouts
Research industry standards and best practices, and stay up-to-date on vendor requirements
Troubleshoot quality issues and report findings to the managing PE
Hiring freelance copy-editors, proofreaders, and indexers, and reviewing the quality of their work
Cultivating relationships and collaborating with Sounds True authors

Recommended Skills/Qualifications/Job Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in English, comparative literature, publishing, or writing
1-2 years minimum working in the production editorial department of a publishing house, publication, or periodical
Strong writing skills and detail orientation, is a meticulous copy-editor and proofreader, and must be able to pass Sounds True’s in-house proofreading test
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a willingness to work collaboratively
Responsive and willing to stay in close and consistent communication with production, art and copy teams, and authors in order to keep projects on course
Excellent project management and planning skills (experience with project management software is a plus)
Proactive, well-organized, and excellent with deadlines and juggling multiple tasks at once
Experience working with eBooks both in reflowable and fixed-format layouts
Knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style, Microsoft Suite, and Google Apps (experience using Microsoft Word styles and/or Scribe’s Well-Formed Document Workflow is a plus)
