Position Profile

The Rights Associate will be responsible for selling a variety of key rights (to be mutually agreed on with managers) and all permissions for Adult and Children’s trade titles. They will also provide other support to the rights department as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

- Assumes responsibility for submissions, negotiations and sales for all permissions and select rights to be determined based on associate’s experience
- Assists both managers with bookfair and licensee meeting prep (including but not limited to London Book Fair, Frankfurt Book Fair, Scholastic and Junior Library Guild)
- Sends monthly rights sales and highlights updates to scouts, film/tv co-agent, and relevant licensees
- Will work with managers on research and creation of rights/permissions-related opportunities (backlist title research, audio reversion opportunities, etc.)
- Liaises closely with rights teams located in the UK regarding file permissions, file fees, etc.
- Responds to rights-related queries from in-house team and outside parties
- Enters submissions updates and all rights deals for department into Biblio, tracks all contracts for signing and execution, enters completed agreements into Biblio
- Maintains database of contacts (scouts, licensees, etc.) for department
- Responsible for assisting both the Associate Rights Director and Senior Director of School and Library Marketing/Rights with other rights-related duties and administrative support

Selection Criteria

- 1-2 years of experience in rights, a combination of domestic and international experience preferred
- Experience with contracts a plus
- Exceptional and effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Attention to detail, highly organized, and able to keep to and/or work ahead of deadlines
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Able to work equally well in a collaborative team environment or proactively alone with limited direct supervision
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

This position will be subject to a hybrid work arrangement, with two days in the office required, and up to five if the candidate chooses. Candidates must reside in NY, NJ, CT, or PA and be able to commute to Bloomsbury USA’s New York City office full-time.
