Hachette Book Group is currently looking for an innovative Senior WordPress Developer. This position’s responsibilities include managing the company’s web team projects on a technical level, providing architectural and design direction, performing site maintenance, monitoring automated operations, code review healthiness, and mentoring developers. Candidates should be able to work closely with the Web Services team and inspire them to reach their goals. This is a full-time position reporting to the Creative Director, Web Services. The role will evolve and move forward with the latest design and WordPress development trends. Ideally, this position would be on-site in the New York office 2 days a week but also open to 100% remote candidates.
Responsibilities:
• Perform code reviews for HBG (Hachette Book Group) and global development teams: Ensure feature branches pass builds, are up to date, and offer guidance on code changes to ensure high quality code that matches existing patterns and standards. For large releases, design deployment plans with minimal risk to production sites.
• Merge feature branches to WordPress production environments with consideration to impact across web properties. Assist developers with version control and local development environment issues.
• Perform regular performance and code audits to ensure fastest load times.
• Monitor automated data imports to our WordPress platform and occasionally troubleshoot failures by performing manual import overrides.
• Work closely with our WordPress development partners to plan, advise, and perform UAT for site maintenance and enhancements.
• Work closely with HBG’s central marketing, analytics, and product innovation teams to plan, design, and build site features.
• Build or enhance reusable site features including custom post type features, 3rd party WordPress API integrations, custom WordPress templates and custom blocks.
• Developer and Marketer training: As new features are released; the Senior WordPress Developer trains developers and marketers on using CMS tools and best practices.
Qualifications:
• Advanced WordPress skills: PHP, WordPress template structure.
• Experience building custom WordPress themes, templates, and plugins with knowledge of parent/child theme relationships.
• Third party API integrations, working with JSON objects and AJAX operations. Understand impact of API integration and load time, when to leverage object caching and transients, and server vs. client-side data loading
• Strong understanding of Git version control
• Strong verbal and written communication skills: Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical colleagues
• Vanilla JavaScript, ES6, HTML5 and SCSS
• Node/npm knowledge for front end builds
• Experience with WCAG accessibility standards preferred
• Experience working in an Agile environment and with bug tracking systems (i.e., JIRA) a plus
• Experience building Gutenberg blocks or some experience with React components a plus
• Experience with WordPress VIP and their custom functions a plus

The salary range for this role is $105,000-$110,000. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your roll or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
