Algonquin Books is seeking a highly-motivated Publicity Assistant to support the Associate Publisher and the publicity team. This is a great opportunity to work with a diverse list of notable authors such as Ross Gay, Rabia Chaudry, Silas House, Louis Bayard, Thirty Umrigar, Nguyen Phan Que Mai, and more, as well as with debut and emerging writers, and to be involved in campaigns on a variety of hardcover and paperback titles. Our ideal candidate will have a strong interest in a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction, excellent written and verbal communication skills, superb time management and prioritization skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, familiarity with the media, and strong attention to detail. Successful candidates will skillfully perform regular administrative duties while demonstrating the ability to take initiative and exercise independent and creative thinking where needed.

We would prefer for the role to commute to the NYC office.


Providing general administrative support, including mailings, processing invoices, billings, ordering supplies, managing media subscriptions, etc.
Drafting press materials, including press releases, pitch and galley letters, quote sheets, talking points, Q&As, etc.
Researching media contacts and maintaining media/bookseller lists.
Liaising with bookstores, literary festivals, and other venues to organize author events.
Coordinating travel and other arrangements for author tours and creating detailed tour schedules for campaigns.
Maintaining media clips, press contacts, and detailed logs of book campaigns in an internal database system.
Communicating with authors, agents, and media contacts, as well as with colleagues in editorial, marketing, and sales
Attending book events and accompanying authors to media interviews.
Preparing weekly publicity updates.
Submitting galleys to pre-publication outlets
Maintaining publicity budget and submit expenses for the department
Pitching and securing national and regional media
Arranging bookstagrammer / influencer tour


Strong interest in publicity and book publishing
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment
Excellent organizational skills and superb attention to detail
Timely follow-up over email and phone while navigating different communication styles
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Active working knowledge of social media and an interest in following book trends is a plus
