Our growing team at Square Enix is full of passionate and energetic self-starters committed to connecting our books, which include volumes of Final Fantasy, Nier: Automata, and Soul Eater, among a universe of others, with the widest possible readership in creative and exciting ways. As a Managing Editor, you’ll play a key role in overseeing the scheduling and day-to-day movement of the front- and backlist titles in production as a valuable member of a very hands-on and collaborative team. In addition, you’ll work closely with our freelancers and clients, as well as Square Enix/Kodansha editors, production managers, and creative services colleagues to oversee from start to finish hardcover and paperback titles across a wide variety of categories.

* Set and enforce production deadlines, working closely with both in-house staff and freelance editors and designers.
* Run regular production meetings and work with the editorial and production staff to suggest solutions and make decisions on scheduling issues.
* Recruit, hire, and manage freelancers for editing and production editing tasks. Evaluate freelancer performance, negotiate fees, and review invoices. Traffic production materials to and from freelancers.
* Monitor the quality of freelance work and, in tandem with the publishing director and senior editor, set and maintain guidelines for house style.
* Oversee copyediting and proofreading of book materials for the seasonal lists.
* Copyedit and proofread jacket/cover copy, front- and back matter, text manuscripts/page proofs/bluelines, and other material.
* Work with production manager to ensure proper digital and physical asset management and archiving.
* Work closely with other PRHPS staff to develop new or improved workflows and procedures.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Proven ability to build relationships, be a reliable point of contact, and manage the tasks and schedules of others
* Proven ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and juggling multiple projects at once

* Interest in anime, manga, or video games a plus
* Ability to read Japanese a plus
