Astra House, a division of Astra Publishing House, is seeking a full-time Editorial Assistant to support our small editorial team in publishing a broad range of adult fiction and nonfiction.

Main responsibilities will be managing administrative tasks for two editorial members of our team and collaborating on editorial work with our international team and managing the interns. General office management is integral to the position so the right applicant must be NYC based.

What you'll do:

+ Provide administrative support, including data entry and upkeep, scheduling meetings, and taking minutes
+ Help maintain publishing schedules
+ Act as liaison with production, sales, marketing and publicity teams and other departments
+ Prepare and traffic forms related to all parts of the publishing process, including memos, TI sheets, reports, presentation documents, contract requests, and check requests
+ Maintain professional and responsive communication with authors and agents and other internal departments
+ Log, read, and evaluate submissions
+ Research author track records
+ Develop original book ideas
+ Edit manuscripts
+ Collaborate in writing editorial and marketing materials including flap copy, fact sheets, and catalog copy
+Report to the office to help with book and galley mailings
+General office management

What you'll bring:

+ Ability to prioritize, respond to shifting and fast-paced environment, and work independently
+ Ability to work collaboratively with an international team
+ Attention to detail and excellent follow through on tasks
+ Demonstrated interest in adult trade literary fiction and narrative nonfiction
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Excellent multitasking and organization abilities
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite programs


+ 0 to 2 years’ previous book publishing experience, preferably in adult trade publishing
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
+ Bilingual preferred but not required
+ Experience in copyediting/proofreading a plus

This position reports to: Publisher and Associate Editor, Astra House
