In the role of senior editor, you will focus exclusively on hands-on creative work with authors, agents, and publishers, including building books from the ground up. Along with big titles with major publishers, you will also have an opportunity to help debut authors find their place in the publishing world.

We are looking for a talented and dedicated senior editor who possesses a wide range of knowledge and a depth of industry expertise. The ideal candidate will have experience in a multiple genres.

Primary responsibilities will include contributing to publishing strategy and book-planning sessions; overseeing and editing material developed by authors and ghostwriters; line editing; providing critical reviews of full-length manuscripts; writing and editing pitch materials; editing and developing book proposals; and providing revisions and editorial feedback to authors, agents, ghostwriters, and publishers.

As a member of the management team, the senior editor will be a key contributor to the ongoing development of the company, including offering insight into potential growth opportunities and advising on how to improve our services and internal processes.

We work often with clients who are high-profile, high-net-worth, or innovators in their respective industries and professions. It is important that the candidate feels comfortable working with such clients and is able to do so with the utmost professionalism and attention to detail.

-Line edit and critically review full-length manuscripts
-Develop, read, edit, and/or evaluate proposals, providing revisions to the author/writer when necessary
-Oversee the book development and writing process
-Participate in book-planning and publishing strategy sessions
-Solve problems and alleviate client and staff concerns in a timely manner
-Maintain extensive knowledge and understanding of publishing industry trends
-Collaborate with staff and project manager to determine and maintain a schedule
-Assist in training staff and communicating procedural changes
-Maintain up-to-date records of all projects in the appropriate systems
-Perform other related duties as necessary

Qualifications and Requirements
-Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred)
-Must have 5+ years combined experience as a literary agent, acquisitions editor, editor, publisher, or other closely related position in the publishing industry
-Strong understanding and awareness of the general marketplace and relevant market segments within the publishing industry
-Excellent critical reading and editorial skills
-A quiet home office where calls (audio and video) can be attended without background noise or interruptions
-Ideally located within the Greater NYC Area, though we will seriously consider any highly qualified client

-Ability to understand and quickly acquire in-depth knowledge of services offered, carefully analyze customer needs, and present solutions
-Proven ability to identify and cultivate new authors and identify bestseller potential
