Sterling Publishing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Barnes & Noble, Inc., has an exciting opportunity for a Production/Project Editor! The Production/Project Editor will oversee a list of assigned titles, partnering closely with Managing Editors, Acquisitions Editors, Art Directors/Designers, Production Managers, and Managing Editorial colleagues at all stages of the production process.

Essential Functions:
• Manage 35 to 50+ titles per year through the editorial and design process, from inception to blueline corrections, in various book categories, including narrative and highly illustrated nonfiction titles.
• Working with various departments, keep the full team assigned to the book on track to release files on time and in impeccable shape; communicate any issues and work to find scheduling or alternate solutions; ensure all schedule milestones are met and all deliverables tracked in the Title Management database.
• Oversee electronic routing process for all passes of manuscript and layout approval; ensure all stakeholders have signed off, collate, and gather consensus on all comments and queries, confirm all changes are made and proofed.
• Manage the versioning of manuscript, layout, and routing files on a network server. Ensure all file-naming protocols are met, all active files are the latest, all previous versions of files stored.
• Communicate with acquiring editors and/or authors in a professional manner to make sure that all editorial queries have been resolved.
• Hire and supervise freelance copy editors, proofreaders, and indexers for assigned books, and take responsibility for their work.
• Prepare sample design and layout packages; specify and enter manuscript design style codes; confirm that design elements are implemented appropriately.
• Copyedit jacket/cover copy, proofread cover layouts, and ensure accuracy of proofs.
• Check prepress pages, printer’s color proofs, and ozalids (PDF proofs).

Qualifications :
• Bachelor's degree required.
• 3–5 years book publishing experience required, including significant experience seeing manuscripts from editorial to manufacture in an editorial or production editorial department or role.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat; familiarity with electronic editing with tracking.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Superior command of grammar, usage, syntax; keen sense of language. Familiarity with printed and electronic reference materials, including The Chicago Manual of Style. Can assess the authority of a source, particularly online.
• Proven copyediting and proofreading skills. Familiar with electronic work flow and standards of page layout and book making.
• Well organized and attentive to details. Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize, and be flexible. Good problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work within a fast-paced, deadline driven environment and be a team player.
