Requirements:
Kane Press is seeking to hire a Senior Editor with a proven record for developing and acquiring high-quality educational children’s books and series and who has strong relationships with authors and agents. The ideal candidate will have a passion for educational children’s series, excellent editorial skills, and strong written and oral communication skills. They will be self-motivated and independent but also contribute positively as part of a small team.

Responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
* Developing/acquiring and editing 12 to 16 titles per year for ages 3 and up, including picture books and chapter book series, both fiction and nonfiction
* Generating ideas in-house for new Kane Press series
* Maintaining and developing strong relationships with agents; nurturing authors and illustrators; and attracting new talent to write for the educational market
* Highly skilled and detail-oriented editing and project management for all stages of book production
* Writing positioning/marketing copy such as TI sheets, flap copy, etc.
* Working closely with art director and designer on series branding/logos
* Hiring freelance activity writers and editing back-of-book and website activities
* Collaborating with Production, Managing Editorial, Design, and other departments
* Presenting books and representing Kane Press at conferences as needed
* Various editorial tasks

What we’re looking for:
* A passionate editor with a deep knowledge of the educational children’s book market and a track record of developing and acquiring STEAM, literacy, or curriculum-based books and series that are successful in schools and libraries and with homeschoolers
* A creative thinker with a strong vision for developing book projects
* Five or more years of experience acquiring and editing educational children’s books
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Ability to work both collaboratively and independently and to be supportive of other team members as well as to nurture authors and illustrators
* An editor who is flexible, detail-oriented, and committed to creating high-quality children’s books
