The Senior Editor, Acquisitions, requires demonstrated success in acquiring prescriptive and narrative nonfiction titles in the areas of health, medicine, psychology, wellness and the life sciences. Deep experience with shaping a publishing program and performing all functions typically required of acquisitions editors (e.g., negotiating contracts, writing catalog copy).

Oversees the work of assigned and other editorial staff, multimedia creators and other content contributors in a specific category of content (by topic, product or content type) to produce trusted, evidence-based content in text, voice and multimedia formats, in multiple languages to be delivered through digital and print channels to meet business objectives by empowering target audiences to take action. Typically the Senior Editor is in an oversight role, but may also serve as an active participant in creation, maintenance and editing of content. Contributes to and/or implements a content strategy and/or operational plan for a content area, including identification of resources to execute it. May Accountable for factually and grammatically correct content and timely delivery in assigned segment. Continuously improves content. Sets objectives for and ensures professional development of assigned staff. Responsibilities include other duties as needed. plan, monitor and manage expenses to target.

Candidates may work from anywhere in the United States but be available during business hours Central Time.


Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field. Seven years of experience in managing strong editorial content for a variety of formats, channels or products. Demonstrated ability to successfully adapt to change and a culture of innovation.

Additional qualifications

Knowledge of or experience with all phases of content creation, from defining strategy to final execution to ongoing maintenance. Proven track record for making strategic and deadline-driven editorial decisions, project management, and for ability to effectively coach staff and thrive in a team environment. Knowledge of or experience with developing or implementing a formal content strategy, content modeling, content auditing, structuring content for multi-channel delivery (web, mobile, print, social, voice, etc.). Background in health- or science-related information or subject matter expertise in health and wellness. Familiarity with standards-based content development practices (e.g., SEO), structured-authoring tools, content delivery standards (e.g., DITA), content metadata, and content translations. Knowledge of or experience with using team-collaboration tools (e.g., Trello, Mural, MS Teams). Experience authoring for personalized experiences. Proficiency in plain language content strategy and development. Master's degree in communications-related field preferred but not required. Experience working in an agile content development environment. Experience developing component content.
