Marketing Specialist (Remote, United States)
Fortress Press

The Marketing Specialist, 1517 Media Books, plans and executes marketing and sales activities for the Fortress Press imprint, serving academic and ministry audiences. Responsible for building community and exposure for Fortress Press titles among core target audiences, the Marketing Specialist represents the Fortress voice and personality across digital channels. The day-to-day work of the Marketing Specialist includes paid and organic social media, email, and web content marketing, as well as campaign project management across print and digital motions.

The Marketing Specialist reports to the Marketing Manager, Fortress Press, and is a member of the dynamic and highly collaborative marketing and sales team responsible for driving the growth of our three book imprints, Fortress Press, Broadleaf Books, and Beaming Books.

The Marketing Specialist will:
• Manage and deploy promotional, content, and lead generating email campaigns for academic and ministry audiences that serve the business goals set forth by the marketing manager
o Serve as HubSpot superuser
o Maintain email editorial calendar
o Team with Marketing Manager and Marketing Coordinator to set email tone, content, and execution that align with campaign and brand goals
o Write articles, identify book excerpts to position as articles, team with authors to write articles for e-newsletters
o Create assets to inspire opt-in
o Represent the Fortress voice and brand through email channels
o Brief design assets for email campaigns
o Team with marketing coordinator to ensure print and digital design assets align
• Engage core target audiences through social channels, positioning Fortress Press as the go-to resource for new books for the academy and the ministry communities
o Create engaging posts that uphold and serve imprint brands, books, and authors
o Brief social media assets
o Implement organic and paid strategies
o Represent the books and brands with a strong voice and integrity that matches audience expectations
o Monitor audience engagement and track the funnel to sales
o Monitor comments and script responses as warranted
o Represent the Fortress voice and brand through social channels
• Build invested customer lists and generate ongoing engagement
o Devise and implement customer opt-in campaigns
o Create funnel strategy for converting opt-ins to customers
o Broker list buys to expand reach in academic and ministry circles
o Create promotional and content marketing campaigns that speak directly to the needs of target audiences
• Maintain Fortress Press web site
o Devise and execute plan for updating the site and ensuring new and trending books, authors, and campaigns are featured front-and-center
o Update event calendar
o Team with marketing manager and designer to improve web site layout and structure
• Lead Fortress marketing team in tracking and driving forward campaigns and promotions
o Team with marketing managers to understand campaign goals and tactics, then establish campaign production schedules that serve those goals
o Set up campaigns in Teamwork, assigning key stakeholders to tasks in the system and ensure team members meet relevant deadlines
o Lead review of schedules and deadlines in Fortress campaign meeting
o Problem solve schedule delays across stakeholders and make schedule adjustments
o Train team members in the use of teamwork
o Batch and send promotions to copyeditor
• Complete other duties as assigned

Desired education:
• B.A. in Marketing or other closely related field
• 2-4 years of experience in social media and/or email marketing critical
• Experience managing campaigns in HubSpot
• Professional experience in book publishing

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Strong writer with the ability to read complicated texts and position them effectively to sophisticated audiences through long and short form copy
• Clear knowledge of paid and organic social media best practices and email best practices
• Must be highly organized and deadline-driven
• Ability to manage simultaneous projects with demonstrated attention to detail
• Self-starter who thrives in a highly collaborative environment
• Familiarity with religion and religious life
