W. W. Norton & Company is seeking an editor for college books in biology. The editor will be responsible for overseeing and developing a list that includes successful undergraduate texts in introductory nonmajors biology, microbiology, immunology, and other subfields. This position will report to the Editorial Director of the College Department.

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:
• Understanding the undergraduate biology course markets in college publishing and the diverse, evolving needs of instructors and students.
• Finding, signing, and communicating with authors and other content contributors for a variety of editorial projects.
• Planning, developing, and implementing revision plans for several successful titles.
• Soliciting feedback from the market and incorporating this feedback into current and future editorial projects.
• Collaborating closely with colleagues in the digital media, project editorial, design, and production groups to ensure quality and timeliness of materials.
• With the help of an editorial assistant, closely monitoring projects at all stages of editorial development and production.
• Professionally interacting with authors, college faculty, and vendors, and effectively communicating ideas to colleagues including the college department editorial board and the advertising and marketing departments.
• Clearly and compellingly presenting biology course materials to the Norton sales team and to faculty on campus, at focus groups, and at academic conferences. Providing support for the sales effort.

Required Qualifications:
• At least four years prior experience in college publishing or comparable experience is required. The ideal candidate will have editorial experience, as well as subject matter and market experience.
• Must be highly disciplined and self-motivated.
• Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize
• Must have a keen understanding of the teaching and learning needs of college professors and students.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills are essential.
• Must be proactive and innovative in a changing environment.
• Must be organized and detail-oriented, making sure that all aspects of daily activities are handled with accuracy and minimal mistakes.
• While travel is moderate, editors must be willing and able to travel several times per year throughout the United States and Canada. Travel includes attending academic conferences and Norton sales conferences, meeting with adopters and prospective adopters, and recruiting authors on college campuses.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Employment eligibility to work with W. W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
• Must be able to work full business hours from Norton’s NYC office. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are temporarily providing employees the option to work remotely.
