Little Bee Books is looking for a Managing Editor for all imprints including Little Bee Books, BuzzPop, and Yellow Jacket. We are a children’s book publisher dedicated to making high-quality, creative, and fun books for busy little bees ages 0 through 16. Little Bee Books offers an inspired selection of early learning concept books, board books, novelty books, activity books, picture books, chapter books, nonfiction, gift sets, and more. The Managing Editor is responsible for the scheduling and trafficking of approximately 100 frontlist titles per year alongside reprints and special sales projects. Strong copyediting, proofreading, and organizational skills are needed to ensure the quality and timeliness of these books.

*This position is temporarily remote and will be based full-time out of our New York City offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work with staff to ensure on-time delivery of manuscripts/layouts to the production team, sales materials to the sales and distribution team, as well as on-time delivery of final product.
• Establish and communicate key deadlines and coordinate delivery at each stage.
• Lead weekly production meetings with the Editorial, Design, and Production teams to get updates and resolve scheduling issues, including reprioritizing as needed to keep projects on schedule.
• Review, copyedit, and fact-check all manuscripts (including cover/jacket copy) and layouts. For longer projects, hire and oversee Independent Contractors, consult with outside copyeditors/proofreaders/cold readers and experts when needed, and hire and supervise freelance indexers.
• Format manuscript in preparation for freelance copyeditors and in-house designers.
• Collate and check proofs.
• Copyedit and proofread miscellaneous material, such as rights guides and marketing materials.
• Help resolve issues and troubleshoot complicated and rush projects.
• Establish and enforce house style standards and procedures and also maintain all documents pertaining to such.
• Input and maintain accurate schedules, specs, data, and content in all required systems in a timely manner.
• Oversee communication and updating of key book information internally and through our distributor, including “title loading” data to distributors’ database and implement frequent updates in both internal and external databases.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university preferred, or college course work and knowledge gained through equivalent work experience.
• Must have 7+ years of experience in managing editorial, preferably with children’s and 4-color illustrated titles.
• Must be extremely detail oriented, with excellent follow through, the ability to handle multiple tasks at once, and meet deadlines efficiently.
• Excellent communication skills required.
• Working knowledge of Biblio, our in-house database, preferred.
• Thorough working knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th Edition.
• Strong Mac and PC skills, including familiarity with electronic copyediting using Word Track Changes and Adobe Acrobat
• Excellent proficiency in English grammar, orthography, and style, and the use of Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel, and additional project-management and title-management software.
• Ability to work independently, decisively, and productively with minimum supervision.
