Catapult is seeking an Editorial Assistant to work in our New York office. This assistant will work with an impressive list of critically-acclaimed fiction and non-fiction titles. Reporting to Editor in Chief Jonathan Lee, the Editorial Assistant will provide administrative support, read and edit manuscripts, be a liaison for other departments in the company, and help manage the entire editorial process.

Responsibilities include:

- Evaluating submissions and drafting rejections.
- Tracking contracts, payments, and manuscripts.
- Writing promotional copy for all projects including advance information sheets, flap copy, catalog copy, and online descriptive copy.
- Preparing material for sales, marketing and art meetings.
- Fielding questions from authors and agents.
- Editing manuscripts for and in conjunction with editors.
- Evaluating submissions for colleagues as needed.
- Providing administrative support for rights sales.
- Copy editing and proofreading as needed.
- Research and fact-checking as needed.
- Providing administrative support, such as completing expense reports, scheduling meetings, answering the telephone, maintaining an organized filing system, taking minutes of meetings, maintaining google calendar, booking travel, etc.
- Liaising internally with other departments, including preparing and checking editorial material for production, design, marketing and sales

Please apply if you meet the following minimum requirements:

- One year of editorial or other publishing experience required
- Strong organization and follow-up skills
- Proven ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Ability to learn information and metadata systems quickly
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google docs, and the Chicago Manual of Style
- Strong interest in serious nonfiction such as science, technology, arts and culture, and history
- Strong interest in literary fiction and a deep knowledge of contemporary authors
- Copyediting and/or proofreading experience is a huge plus
