Requirements:
Catapult is seeking a Production Editor to join the collaborative team in its Production Department. We work with a variety of titles from three prestigious imprints: Catapult, Counterpoint, and Soft Skull Press.

Reporting to the Senior Managing Editor, the Production Editor will oversee all aspects of text and cover work for approximately 50–60 titles per year, including nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and reprints.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Maintains, updates, and manages production schedules, style guides, and freelance roster.
• Keeps books on schedule and error-free under tight deadlines.
• Manages editorial workflow from initial transmittal of manuscripts to the final print releases (hardcover, paperback, and ebook).
• Coordinates regularly with freelancers, editors, and production to see titles through to completion.
• Keeps all concerned parties (editors, authors, freelancers, etc) informed of production schedules and any production issues.
• Acts as the primary point of contact with authors throughout the production process.
• Conducts searches for new freelance copy editors, proofreaders, cold readers, and indexers, and assesses their work to expand Catapult’s stable of freelancers.
• Prepares and styles initial text transmittals for copyediting and typesetting.
•  Designs and typesets interior layouts, and inputs corrections at all stages, using InDesign and Photoshop.
•  Reviews copyediting, proofreading, and indexing jobs to ensure projects meet Catapult’s quality standards: must be able to work with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat to slug and reconcile copyediting, proofreading, author corrections, and review of all stages of manuscripts, text proofs, and electronic proofs.
• Reviews and collates authors' and proofreaders' edits: this work is done electronically and may include additional copyediting, fact-checking, and following up with queries to the editor/author and notes for the book designer.
• Copyedits, proofreads, and reviews (e.g., slugs) ancillary material, such as front matter, back matter, image quality, image captions, etc.
• Edits, reviews, and routes page proofs through production, giving final approval, and performing final checks before printing.
• Copyedits, proofreads, routes, and approves all stages of cover production, from cover copy to jacket routings to printers’ proofs.
• Performs quality assurance checks on ebooks.
• Helps train interns in copyediting and proofreading.
• Assists Senior Managing Editor and production colleagues as needed.

Essential Qualifications/Requirements:
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in a production editorial environment or equivalent editing and project management experience.
• Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat, MS Word, and other Office products: must be able to work and review all work electronically using the track changes function in MS
• Word and mark-up tools in Adobe Acrobat.
• Familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style and/or Words Into Type.
• Superb copyediting and proofreading skills.
• Proficiency in book design, typesetting, and inputting corrections at all stages.
• Proven track record of prioritizing multiple assignments, working well under pressure, and consistently meeting tight deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders across all levels of an organization.
• Emphasis on quality of content, with exceptional attention to detail.
• Familiarity with Google Docs and Google Sheets.
• Familiarity with ebooks.
• Flexibility and capability of rising to a challenge.
• Ability to work autonomously, and at the same time be a key support for the team.
• Self-motivation to be a team player, with strong analytical skills.

Bonus:
Familiarity with project management software, such as Teamwork, Trello, or Asana, is not required but is helpful.
