About Our
Albert Whitman & Company is an independent children’s publisher that has been creating award-winning children’s books since 1919. Best known for the classic series The Boxcar Children ®, our mission is to delight and engage children of all backgrounds and experiences.

When Albert Whitman was founded more than one century ago, our goal was simple: make good books that children want to read. Today, we continue this tradition, guided by a deeper mission to create stories that also educate and empower children. We strive to create a safe space for children to learn about themselves and their communities, as well as the larger world. We promote empathy, inclusion, and personal responsibility. We aim to help children become global citizens, ones who seek to understand themselves and the world around them.
