Join a fast-growing and dynamic team of Big-5 acquisitions editors who are doing the work they love (working with incredible authors and agents) in an environment that values and fosters their talent.

Working at KAA allows you to enjoy the fun, creative, and meaningful work that drew you to a career in publishing, but without the corporate politics, board meetings, red tape, or daily commute. Spend your working hours actually editing books and working with authors and agents.

The role of senior editor focuses exclusively on hands-on creative work with authors, agents, and publishers, including working with authors to build their book from the ground up. Along with big titles with major publishers, you will also have an opportunity to help debut authors break out.

The position offers similar compensation and benefits to equivalent positions at Big-5 publishers; ample opportunity for professional growth and mobility; the potential to earn generous bonuses; flexible hours; and the opportunity to be an integral part of a dynamic company in the midst of exponential growth.

We are looking a senior editor who possesses a wide range of knowledge and a depth of industry expertise across multiple genres.

Primary responsibilities will include line editing and providing critical reviews of full-length manuscripts, writing and editing pitch materials, editing and overseeing the development of book proposals, attending and contributing to publishing strategy and book-planning sessions, and providing revisions and editorial feedback to authors, agents, ghostwriters, and publishers.

As a member of the management team, the senior editor will be a key contributor to the ongoing development of the company, including offering insight into potential growth opportunities and advising on how to improve our services, company cultures, and internal processes. At KAA, every employee's voice is heard and respected, and we can implement changes for improvements quickly.

-Oversee, read, edit, and/or evaluate proposals, providing revisions to the author/writer when necessary

Qualifications and Requirements
-Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred)
-Must have 5+ years combined experience as a literary agent, acquisitions editor, editor, publisher, or other closely related position in the publishing industry
-Strong understanding and awareness of the general marketplace and relevant market segments within the publishing industry
-Excellent critical reading and editorial skills
-A quiet home office where calls (audio and video) can be attended without background noise or interruptions
-Ideally located within the Greater NYC Area, though we will seriously consider any highly qualified client

Skills and Competencies
-Self-motivated, hands-on, and creative with exceptional communication skills
-Persuasive and goal-oriented
-Committed team player who enjoys a fast-paced and results-oriented work environment
-Ability to work both independently and with a team

-Attention to detail in a deadline-driven environment with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and delegate
-Strong initiative and judgment, particularly regarding team leadership
-Strong computer and research skills, with proficiency in MS Word
-Excellent conversation and presentation skills, with an ability to quickly establish rapport and react effectively in dynamic, fluid, customer-facing situations
