The Marketing Director role is an exciting opportunity to establish a new position working with the world’s #1 author, James Patterson, and to be responsible for developing creative and ground-breaking marketing and advertising campaigns for a wide range of bestselling titles. The marketing director will be responsible for deploying extensive budgets to attract and expand a massive consumer fan base across multiple platforms. The position has the unique opportunity to experiment and test creative ideas in real time for bestseller campaigns for fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books.


Develop key positioning strategies and taglines for each book
Responsible for overseeing the traditional and digital marketing functions for James Patterson. Ensure alignment with multiple brand strategies and objectives.
Work on key marketing and advertising campaigns each season as needed and ensure that author and publisher objectives are met.
Work with key stakeholders (editorial, sales, art, central corporate marketing, and advertising & promotion) during the planning phase to ensure that there are cohesive and strategic marketing efforts made for each title.
Ensure that marketing efforts directly engage readers and build customer retention and loyalty.
Inject new skills into the marketing function by expanding the digital and analytical acumen of existing employees.
Responsible for building better analytics to determine advertising
Continually stay abreast of leading and emerging marketing practices in both the publishing and other industries and share best practices across the imprint.
Develop SEO strategy to drive traffic to JP Website


Minimum of 5 years of progressive marketing management experience with demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
Strong creative vision and brand building experience
Proven ability to create strong integrated campaigns, including traditional as well as paid social, programmatic and search advertising strategies
Analytical skillsets to optimize campaigns for ROI and develop audience insights and targeting strategies that reach existing fans while always looking to expand the audience
Knowledge of metadata best practices and ability to optimally position JP’s books on retailer sites and in search
Ability to conceive unique marketing positions and successfully execute consumer-facing campaigns. Examples required.
Results-oriented, motivated, resourceful & able to work independently.
