Requirements:
Melville House is looking for someone with moxy to run our social media program. This position oversees the development and management of all aspects of our social media, as well as creative participation in our online marketing and outreach campaigns, and the creation of assets for those campaigns.

As our company's internet presence also includes the expression of the company's position on industry topics (such as, you know, Amazon) and political topics (we have a lot of those) beyond our books, we're also looking for someone who follows the news, reads the trades, and is up to date.

Specific duties include:

• Creating and executing social media promotional campaigns
• Creating and executing social outreach campaigns, such as to booksellers
• Creating content and assets for all such campaigns
• Working directly with authors to coordinate, help guide, and improve, where necessary, their own social media presence
• Maintaining the company's social media presence, particularly but not exclusively on Twitter and Instagram
• Developing, using, and presenting, analytic data to evaluate the success of our programs
• Raising the company's profile

THIS IS NOT AN ENTRY LEVEL JOB. Salary commensurate with experience.

While the company is working virtually now, applicants must be able to join us in Brooklyn when we re-open the offices post-pandemic.

MELVILLE HOUSE IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER. MINORITY CANDIDATES ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.

Further requirements:

• At least 2-3 years experience working in marketing at a trade book publisher. We stress we are specifically looking for someone with experience marketing books.
• Strong writing skills
• Strong data management skills
• A skill set encompassing all the various design software necessary for making social media assets
• The ability to handle a wide variety of books -- fiction and nonfiction on a variety of topics -- simultaneously
• Sang-froid when it comes to working under pressure, and an ability to hit deadlines
• An ability to work with marketing, editorial, sales, and production colleagues in a deeply collaborative environment
• A sense of humor
• A keen interest in independent publishing (as opposed to corporate publishing)
• More than passing familiarity with our books
• Bookstore experience a plus
