The Director will work closely with our authors and their agents, as well as the Knopf Doubleday Group’s editors, publicists, and Penguin Random House’s corporate sales and communication colleagues. Additionally, the director will strategize on campaigns for high-profile fiction and nonfiction writers, as well as take a leadership role in the newly integrated divisional marketing team.
The ideal solutions-focused candidate will have extensive experience working in a hands-on and busy department; planning and executing marketing campaigns and managing budgets; have a proven track-record of success in launching and sustaining bestsellers; and will thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Candidates should have excellent communication skills and management experience, as well as the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
The Role:
* Works closely with the publishing team, as well as the integrated marketing team, to create, communicate, and implement data-driven, results-oriented campaigns for a variety of titles, both fiction and non-fiction.
* Collaborates directly with publishers, authors, and agents to communicate and execute marketing plans.
* Clearly identifies the potential audiences for a publication and continually refines targeting and messaging to expand the readership for every book.
* Manages a team of five title marketers who are responsible for over 100 hardcovers and trade paperbacks per year.
* Develops a strategy for imprint social platforms.
* Flexibly manages book promotion plans and budgets that grow and change over time.
* Collaborates with authors to maximize campaign effectiveness, including increasing social media platforms and working collaboratively to build author brands.
* Leverages resources and analytics for more effective targeting and messaging.
* Pitches organizations, VIPs, social media influencers, and partners for cross-promotional opportunities for single titles as appropriate and in concert with larger team.

The Essentials:
* A strong history in title marketing for fiction and nonfiction in all formats.
* Experience managing a team.
* A growth mindset committed to a creative and entrepreneurial approach to publishing.
* Fluency in key marketing concepts and tools, including consumer insights, sales analysis, budgeting, social media marketing, media planning, and email.
* Motivated self-starter and collaborator with proven abilities to meet deadlines, multi-task, and prioritize.
* Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, as well as experience presenting in front of large groups.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as with social media tracking and analytical tools.
