West Wind Literary Scouting, a new scouting firm formed in conjunction with W1-Media, a German publishing corporation, is looking for an Assistant or Associate-level Scout to cover the Children’s and YA book market for our publishing clients and to provide support to the Director.

We are seeking a highly-motivated and well-connected individual with a desire to build up this new scouting agency with us. In particular, we are looking for a person with a broad network, expertise, and work experience in the Children’s/YA book market, preferably with a background in scouting or foreign rights.

Main Responsibilities:
• Reading and reporting on relevant titles for Children’s/YA clients and providing thoughtful and nuanced recommendations
• Scheduling book fair appointments for publisher clients
• General administrative work and support, including but not limited to preparing additional reports for clients, handling mail, and data entry
• Frequent communication and attendance at in-person meetings with contacts at Children’s publishers and agencies to keep abreast of new titles for our clients

• Bachelor’s Degree
• 2-5 years of work experience in the Children’s/YA market, preferably with previous experience in scouting or foreign rights
• Strong relationships in both the editorial and foreign rights departments at Children’s/YA publishers and agencies in the US
• Candidate must be located within the Greater New York City area. While position will be work-from-home to start, we plan on establishing office space in Hoboken, Jersey City, or Lower Manhattan in the medium-term. In the interim, this position will require availability for in-person meetings with the Director as needed, subject to local and state public health guidance.
• Ability to travel internationally to annual meetings and book fairs, as needed.

• Ability to work in an extremely fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality work output
• Fast and thorough reading abilities
• General knowledge of both the US Children’s and YA market and the international publishing marketplace
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Extremely detail-oriented
• Strong organizational skills
