Indiana University Press seeks a progressive Acquisitions Editor, specializing in National and Regional Trade Books. The editor will be responsible for Red Lightning Books, Quarry Books and books published under the IUPress imprint. The list includes cooking, travel, history, science, fiction and true crime. The ideal candidate will work closely with marketing and acquisitions department in developing a competitive and creative list of books.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in the humanities, social sciences or marketing and three years of experience acquiring books and/or marketing for a publisher.

Combinations of education and related experience may be considered.

Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.

Familiarity with the history, literature, culture, and people of Indiana and the Midwest. Strong familiarity with trade list building and trends in trade publishing. Computer literacy including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and database management, preferably FileMaker. Facility with using social media and other online resources. Excellent communication skills. Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to multitask effectively. Excellent interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to interact tactfully, courteously, and with discretion, and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships. Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Advance degree in the humanities, social sciences or marketing. Experience building lists, developmental editing of book manuscripts, and budgeting.
