We are currently seeking an Executive Editor to be responsible for a wide range of editorial and publishing tasks in the Quill Tree Books imprint, which publishes award-winning picture books, fiction for children and teens, graphic novels, and nonfiction. The role will report to the VP, Editorial Director.

- Acquires lead-level titles with critical and bestselling potential, and edits manuscripts for publication.
- Shepherds manuscripts through production process and oversees all aspects of the publication process, including working with design to create marketable packages and with the marketing group to develop marketing plans.
- Works directly with authors, agents, and all in-house departments.
- Oversees title sheet, jacket, and catalog copy; reviews marketing material.
- Conducts and analyzes sales research, with a deep understanding of p&ls.
- Presents titles at various sales meetings.
- Negotiates contracts with agents.
- Shares supervision of an editorial assistant.

- Minimum 8 years of relevant editorial experience; children’s publishing experience in middle grade and teen fiction preferred
- Track record of publishing distinguished books that have wide appeal
- Acquisition and publication of multiple profitable and critically viable projects
- Excellent negotiation skills and strong presentation skills
- Established relationships with literary agents and industry colleagues
- Extensive experience reviewing contracts
- Strong understanding and awareness of general marketplace and relevant market segments within industry
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels across the organization, collaborative colleague who works well with others
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and set priorities under pressure
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office
