W.W. Norton & Company, Inc. is seeking a Marketing Research and Strategy Manager. The Marketing Research and Strategy Manager is primarily responsible for developing, implementing, and executing strategic marketing plans for books and media in their disciplines. The person will work closely with their Sales and Market Development Specialist counterparts, as well as their fellow colleagues in Marketing Research and Strategy Manager role. This is a highly collaborative group and position that requires a person who thrives when working on a team but who is also a self-starter who takes initiative and full ownership over their projects. An ideal candidate will be an excellent writer and collaborator, highly creative, analytical, and organized. They should be able to juggle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, turn ideas into action, and regularly assess the efficacy of their campaigns and adjust as necessary. Marketing Research and Strategy Managers will be required to use Pardot and Salesforce extensively to capture and engage and nurture leads, track campaign results, and monitor the sales pipeline.

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:
• Develop creative prepublication marketing campaigns, track all reviewers and prospects using Pardot campaigns, and revise messaging as needed.
• Visit campuses clustered around academic conferences and meet with professors to do pre-publication research (Total required travel: 2 company sales conferences, discipline academic conferences, and ~10-15 additional days on campus for market development activities).
• Attend academic conferences and organize events to drive booth traffic and increase engagement with instructors.
• Conduct in-depth research for target lists for books in the market development phase.
• Collaborate with discipline editors the Field Notebook Sheet Copy.
• Design and administer surveys for market development and front list books and media.
• Read and respond to Action Plans in Salesforce, providing content- and competition-focused guidance.
• Own the August sales conference presentation and take responsibility for the outline, the presentation materials, and all logistics.
• Design and execute comprehensive email marketing strategies, including writing email copy for advertising and direct marketing emails, project managing emails in Pardot, designing emails when necessary, and implementing changes to the plan throughout the year.
• Engage with instructors using direct marketing techniques and enter information in Salesforce accordingly.
• Routinely analyze usage of print and digital products, both Norton’s and competitors’, to present findings to book teams and Norton management.
• Research and propose digital pricing for front list books and media.
• Work with advertising team on all advertising-related projects (print pieces, online ads, videos, website copy, etc.).
• Attend book team meetings.
• Participate in marketing committee/prelaunch meetings and help to prepare the memos.
• Help create any remaining sales tools determined by the group to be necessary during the course of the sales year.
• Track ROI of marketing activities and regularly analyze efficacy of campaigns, making adjustments when appropriate.
• Develop and execute a social media strategy for discipline.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree.
• 3 years of proven experience in higher education publishing sales preferred.
• Must be highly disciplined and self-motivated.
• Must be collaborative and enjoy working on a team.
• Must have the ability to analyze results and assess efficacy of marketing activities.
• Must have the ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize.
• Must have superior verbal and written communications.
• Must be organized, responsive, and detail-oriented, making sure that all aspects of daily activities are handled with accuracy and minimal mistakes.
• While travel is light, candidates must be willing and able to travel several times per year throughout the United States and Canada. Travel includes attending academic conferences, meetings with instructors on college campuses, marketing meetings at Norton’s headquarters in New York, and Norton sales conferences twice per year.
