Ulysses Press, an independent nonfiction book publisher, is seeking a Publishing Intern for the Spring 2020 semester. This is a part-time position based in our Brooklyn office, reporting to the Director of Marketing & Operations and the Director of Editorial & Acquisitions.

The intern will have the opportunity to see the inner workings of an independent book publisher and to work with multiple departments, including editorial, marketing and publicity, production, and operations. As part of a small and agile team, the intern will gain hands-on experience and knowledge of all facets of book publishing.

Opportunities and Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with the editorial team to identify potential publishing opportunities and prepare pre-acquisition materials
* Work with the marketing department to brainstorm and implement marketing campaigns
* Assist with publicity research, pitching media outlets and executing book mailings
* Help craft catalog, cover, and promotional copy and assist in entering metadata for sell sheets and catalog entries
* Attend acquisitions and pitch meetings
* Brainstorm website content and update book data on the site
* Provide some light production support—reviewing layouts, proofreading, etc.
* Other marketing and editorial support as necessary

A Successful Candidate Will Have:
* A strong interest in book publishing, specifically nonfiction
* Strong computer skills, particularly in Excel, Google Docs, and databases
* Strong attention to detail
* Excellent organizational and administrative skills
* Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
* Ability to think creatively and critically
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
* Familiarity with WordPress, HTML, InDesign, or Photoshop.
* Experience with social media marketing and branding
* Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style

Hourly wage or college credit, depending on the candidate.
