Manning is hiring a Graphics Editor on a part-time basis.

Basic Responsibilities
The Graphics Editor will manage various stages of graphic art for approximately 50 books per year. Overall responsibilities include hiring and directing illustrators and graphic designers, managing a staff graphic coordinator and assist in trafficking material for approval, maintaining schedules, organizing and versioning files, and preparing files for output. The Graphics Editor will need excellent communication skills and the ability to explain design concepts and issues to non-designers and work collaboratively with authors, development editors, production editors, and others; convey detailed art direction to in-house and freelance staff; establish and maintain best practices and other procedural materials; and run or attend meetings relating to graphics as necessary.

Required Skills
- Possess good technical knowledge of typesetting, prepress, and printing (1 color, 2 color, 4 color); familiarity with ebook technology and formats (e.g., XML and ePub).
- Remain current on art, design, and publishing trends, with expert knowledge of graphic design software, especially Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat). Should have familiarity with Microsoft Office; familiarity with LaTeX a plus. Also able to work with other programs and formats, such as Inkscape,, Lucidcharts (.graffle), Keynote (.key), Google Slides, Figma (.fig), Sketch, and others.
- Have strong knowledge of permissions and licensing rules relating to art, fonts, logos, and other graphics-related materials.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a design capacity in publishing, preferably within an academic or technology environment.
- Should have experience with highly illustrated books, textbooks, mathematical formulas, tabular material, or similarly complex content.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to work through email, phone, Skype and other conference call environments.
- Reliable remote office setup (computer, Internet, phone line) and access to necessary graphic design software.
- Patience, persistence, creativity, diplomacy, and a sense of humor.
