Hay House is seeking a full-time Senior Editor to manage 12–16 projects a year. Responsibilities include acquiring, editing, and overseeing all aspects of the publication process. This role is responsible for all areas of book development, including acquiring, editing, building and maintaining relationships with authors, and liaising with design, production, managing editorial, marketing, publicity, sales, and audio.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage 12–16 new projects per year, including projects acquired personally and projects assigned by editorial director or publisher. This will include several projects managed jointly with editorial director.
• Acquire 6–8 projects per year, presenting projects at weekly acquisitions meetings and preparing P&Ls and supplemental materials for review by executive acquisitions committee.
• Develop and maintain relationships with authors in order to act as primary contact before, during, and after book publication.
• Take responsibility for all editorial aspects of each project, including editing and liaising with design, production, marketing, publicity, and audio.
• Using industry best practices and in-house resources, write effective copy for covers, fact sheets, design memos, and other marketing copy as required.
• Manage, create, or review materials for various events, such as summits and launches.
• Work closely with other in-house editors to discuss conceptual issues, brainstorm processes, workshop copy, and more.
• Perform hands-on work with live design files in InDesign, entering text corrections and coordinating with design department to prepare materials to go to print.
• Help establish processes for managing workflow and coordinating with other departments.
• Adhere to production schedules and meet deadlines.
• Manage editorial freelancers, including developmental/line editors, as needed; coordinate with managing editorial and design departments to manage the work of freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and designers as needed.
• Collaborate with colleagues in other HH offices on shared projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Will include working with junior editorial staff, helping to train them, and/or overseeing their work on specific tasks.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
• Widespread knowledge of book publishing processes and functions (editorial, production, design, copyediting, marketing, sales).
• Strong interest in and knowledge of the company’s core content areas.
• Excellent intra- and interdepartmental communication and collaboration skills required.
• PC and Mac skills required, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Excel; basic ability in InDesign desired.
• Must have considerable current contacts (key authors, illustrators, agents, etc.) in the book publishing industry.
• Organization, attention to detail, analytic skills, and verbal and written communication skills a must.
• Must be highly motivated, a self-starter, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be results-driven, with the ability to determine and take appropriate steps to achieve goals.

Education and/or Experience
• 5+ years of relevant editorial and acquisitions experience.
• Theoretical knowledge typically achieved through a related four-year college experience, such as a Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism or equivalent.

Language, Mathematical and Reasoning Abilities
• Excellent verbal communication skills with ability to speak effectively with authors, vendors, customers, and employees of organization.
