Henry Holt seeks an accomplished Editor in Chief. The Editor in Chief will acquire fiction and non-fiction; help develop editorial strategy and manage its implementation; and lead and supervise Holt’s editorial group. The ideal candidate will guide the acquisitions process, oversee and analyze P&Ls, and work with all other groups at Holt and Macmillan.The candidate will represent Holt in the publishing industry and at trade shows and industry events.The ideal person will have a strong history of acquiring and editing successful nonfiction titles and/or fiction titles. This position will report to the President and Publisher of Henry Holt.


• Strong team-building skills, and strong leadership skills.
• An ability to take ownership of a variety of projects and make timely decisions; results-driven and goal-focused.
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop staff and improve productivity through goal setting, coaching, delegating, training, and regular performance evaluation.
• Strong contacts, recognition and impact in the publishing industry.
• Demonstrated history of publishing best sellers.
• Must be able to respond quickly in an environment of changing priorities. Must be able to set relevant priorities on a daily basis as the job requires multitasking.

Experience Needed:

• 10+ years editorial work in trade book publishing
